Are you getting ready to welcome your students back to school? Reading aloud to students at the start of the year helps to build a classroom community because you can carefully select books with themes that will help set the tone in your classroom.
Children arrive at school feeling a range of emotions. Some children are afraid and sad to leave their families, while others come eager to make new friends.
Something about reading a book as a class seems so welcoming and makes students feel more comfortable in a new classroom setting. Students can learn routines for whole-group instruction as well as become more comfortable in the classroom.
I've compiled a list of 11 fantastic books to read aloud during the first week of school. They are all excellent for assisting children in adjusting to new classmates, new experiences, a new teacher, and the general excitement of the first day of school.
