The Secret to a Perfect Classroom Dismissal is Easier Than You Think

Teachers and students alike can be nervous on the first day of school! I know the first day of school can be nerve-raking because we need to get our kids on the appropriate bus! Dismissal information can be really confusing, but I've finally figured out a system that works, and I wanted to share it with you!

Where to start? I like to have parents fill out the dismissal form at the Meet the Teacher event.
You can keep the list on a clipboard and ask each parent individually, or you can keep them at the sign-in table. If the parents/guardians of a child didn't come to the Meet the Teacher event, call the parents/guardians and inquire about how they will get home that day.

Once you have that information, I use this dismissal transportation chart throughout the year.  There are a lot of  ways of showing where and how your kids will return home. This is particularly critical during the first several weeks of school! I enjoy having this up all year in case a substitute or someone else needs to dismiss my children!

Print, fill out, laminate, and attach to student backpacks to ensure for proper dismissal routes at the end of the school day. I punch holes in the transportation tags and zip tie them to my students' backpacks!

The days are ticking away... it won't be long before we're all back in class! I hope these ideas make dismissal on the first day of school a breeze! :)
