Learning the alphabet and identifying letters and sounds is the foundation for learning how to write and read. In order to keep our students engaged and excited to learn we need to provide different activities for teaching letters and sounds.
These activities will help your students practice and build letter recognition skills in a fun and engaging way. These activities are hands-on and don't require a lot of prep.
1. Pocket Chart- Picture Sort
This is a great activity for your students to complete at a pocket chart center. Students can have fun sorting the pictures according to the beginning sound. Includes over 120 picture cards featuring words for each letter.
2. Posters
Each poster contains a specific letter and 3 to 5 words that begin with that letter and the corresponding picture.
Post in your classroom, use in small groups, whole group or in literacy centers.
3. Puzzles
Each puzzle is made up of three pieces. Students match the uppercase letter, lowercase letter, and a beginning sound picture.
The puzzles are great for morning tubs, early finisher activities, or a literacy center.
4. Magnetic Letters
This beginning sound center can be used in your morning work, for reviewing or word work center along with magnetic letters. Students look at the pictures first and then write the letter that makes that sound.
5. Bingo
This bingo is a great way for children to learn letters and sounds. The friendly pictures help children associate the initial sound with the letter. It's a new literacy center children will love!
6. BOOM Cards-Distance Learning
Boom Cards are digital task cards that allow your students to work on letter sound identification skills. They are self-checking, easy and fun to use! They are PERFECT for non-readers and early readers since it includes SOUND.

This deck will provide an exciting and engaging way for students to practice beginning sounds and for you to easily assess their letter and phonics mastery.Students look at the picture first.
